Summer’s coming to an end; darkness is drawing in.

Autumn Equinox is one of only two moments each year when day and night are equal length; a moment when light and dark are in equal balance. But we don’t believe in binaries, so we’re embracing all the shady liminal places between light and dark with a night of weird and wonderful spoken word and performance from our writer-in-residence Jane Claire Bradley and some very special guests.

Debuting in-progress material developed during her Queer Amusements residency, The Dead, The Divine and The Diabolical explores themes of finding home and family; untangling bloodlines and ancestral lineage; and witchcraft, worship and what it means to be both divine and diabolical in places like Blackpool and beyond.

Please note the interpreter will stand stage right which is the front left of the stage from the audience point of view.

Venue

As a basement venue Bootleg is only accessible down a flight of stairs. To avoid any disappointment we have made available a streaming pass. This digital ticket is available at check out and will give you access to a live stream of the evening.

Bootleg Social is an independently owned and run late bar and live music venue located in Blackpool town centre. They opened their doors in December 2014 with the aim of being an alternative music venue, nightspot and creative space for the local residents and like-minded visitors to the area.

About the Artist

Jane Claire Bradley is an award-winning queer, working-class writer, performer, therapist and educator. She is the author of a fiction chapbook, Truth or Dare (2021), a novel, Dear Neighbour (2023), and the forthcoming chapbook Lost + Found (2024). She has been published in a long list of anthologies, essay collections and literary journals, and is the winner of a Northern Debut Award from New Writing North. Jane is currently writer-in-residence with Blackpool Social Club and Queer Amusements.

Blackpool Social Club is a not for profit digital magazine dedicated to finding the best of Blackpool and The Fylde Coast’s vibrant and blooming creative scene. Since 2012 they have published over 1900 articles, boasted a team of over 20 contributors, been nominated for several awards and made it their mission to find aspiring writers, photographers and filmmakers. They are the home of creativity and culture on the Fylde Coast.

Queer Amusements is a new queer multi-artform festival taking place in Blackpool from February to September 2024. Showcasing art, performance, events and workshops across the mediums of film, literature, visual and performance art, craft, dance and drag. Commissioned by Marlborough Productions as part of New Queers on the Block, Aunty Social and supported using public funding by Arts Council England.
